Cryptography Research to present on smart card security at Cartes 2006

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., and PARIS, France, October 26, 2006 –Cryptography Research, Inc. (CRI), a worldwide leader in security systems, today announced that Ken Warren, Smart Card Business Manager Europe, will be presenting “High assurance testing of smart cards against power analysis“ at the Cartes show near Paris, France. Cartes, a world-class professional event for the smart card industry and identification industries event, is expected to attract more than 18,000 visitors this year.

Warren’s talk has particular relevance for evaluation labs, smart card manufacturers and customers keenly interested in demonstrating high assurance security in products that resist potentially disastrous power analysis attacks such as Differential Power Analysis (DPA) and Simple Power Analysis (SPA). Smart cards and other cryptographic devices can be vulnerable to DPA attacks, which can reveal secret keys. Effective countermeasures are required to prevent payment cards, ID cards, and other devices from fraud and abuse.

Warren will discuss the new and unique challenges in testing leakage channels in smart card products, and cover the pros and cons of evaluation and validation based testing strategies. The presentation will outline how these challenges are addressed in Cryptography Research’s “DPA Countermeasure Validation Program”, and cover the essential business and technical elements of this updated program. Warren will present in the C18 Cards & Security session, being held on Thursday, November 9, 2006.
